TRIP TO HARDANGER FJORD

our little boat

Rosendalen

a Spanish family that simply passed out after the exhausting trip ;-)

HEY GUYS

Hi everybody,
how are you? I am doing great! Still having a lot of fun here in Bergen :) Today is Sunday and I slept in... NICE - I LIKE :) I will have a good breakfast and then head to the gym, which opens at 2pm today. Later on I have some reading to do for Norwegian and my English literature class, but it will be a pretty relaxed sunday.
I had a presentation about one of the books we are reading last week and it went pretty well. The first exams are in 3 weeks time, it´s unbelievable how fast the spring semester passed...
To me it seems nearly unreal, that I´m finished here in some weeks. I have 3 exams plus an oral one. Norwegian, English and communication have written exams from 3 hours to 6 hours. The oral exam in Norwegian will only be about 10 min, but for me this is enough...I´ll probably break my tongue trying to speak Norwegian ;)
The pictures which you see on top of the blog entry are from last Friday. We were invited to a Tequila party downtown at Elma´s place. It was great, we were dancing the "Lasso" song, a thing I would probably never do at home, but which is so much fun here. Now some Americans and the Norwegians can dance to German "schlagermusic". hahaha
Yesterday we went on a beautiful fjord trip by boat. Our destination was a little, picturesque village called Rosendalen in the third largest fjord in the world: the Hardangerfjord. We walked to a little castle and I felt like in a fairytale. Green trees and colourful flowers everywhere, the sun was shining (although it was so cold on the boat) and the castle was an old beautiful building with a pretty garden infront of it.
The only thing that pisses me off is that it is still very cold here in Bergen (between 0 and 5 degrees) . It was snowing the other day and spring just doesn´t want to come... I gave nearly all my winter stuff to my parents when they were here, so they could take it home. So spring is better coming very soon. I want sunshine!!!
You guys in Germany are very spoiled, you know that?! 29 degrees.... come on, this is not fair!
Well, but when I come home I will make up for all the barbecue sessions ;-)
Looking forward to see all of you in about 5 weeks :-))
Many kisses
Kathi

PARENT´S VISIT & COOKING COMPETITION

Hey y´all,
everything ok in Germany? Hope you had a happy Easter! My parents were here over the weekend and we had a lot of fun in rainy/snowy Bergen :( I was a bit disappointed because of the weather, but we really had a good time. Friday night we had a cool, international evening in our kitchen in Fantoft. They brought 4.7 kilos of finest beef and a lot of alcohol, so we really had an amazing evening with Italians, Americans and the Germans :)
Saturday we did the "Norway in a nutshell" tour which was amazing aswell. The trip took us 10 hours and we travelled by train, boat, bus and Flambahn. We got to see a lot of the fantastic, peaceful and quiet Norwegian landscape and I really think this tour gives you a good insight of how Norway looks like. Easter Sunday it was raining non-stop which really sucked, because I wanted to show my parents a lot more of the city, but we were completely soaked after we visited the harbour and Bryggen... In the end we did a nice pub/cafe/restaurant tour through Bergen ;)
On Monday we visited the Edward Grieg mansion and the park surrounding it, which I really enjoyed. After that my parents took off to Stavanger and Kristiansand in the south of Norway and from there to Denmark by ferry and then back to Germany.

These are some pictures of last night´s Intercultural Cooking Competition organized by the student network of the university of Bergen. I teamed up with Leonie (Gretchen), Ina (Annemarie) and Tina (Anneliese). My name was Heidi...
I thought our Schlaaand outfit was really cool, we all had braids and little German flags attached to our shirts. We knew right away that we had not the sleighest chance to win that competition, because they were some really good chefs taking part, but I really thought that our Bratkartoffeln, "Frikkas" and peppers filled with mushroom, zuchini and cheese tasted really well ;) Typical German food! But the comitee was not too convinced so they voted for Pakistan (1st), Germarica (America+Germany) (2nd) and Canada/France (3rd). But we had sooo much fun!!!
"1, 2, 3, Hasselhoff!!!" - this was our battle call!! and we were singing Wolfgang Petri songs all the time ... all German heritage of course!
I hope you guys all enjoy the pictures!
Take care and I miss you all very much!
Muah,
Kathi
